Carnelian is the red, orange, or amber stone which belongs to the Chalcedony family consisting of cryptocrystalline silica. Its reddish brown color is derived from its iron-oxide content. Carnelian is classified as an agate and called either Carnelian Agate or Red Agate. In its banded form, it is called Banded Carnelian or Banded Agate.
Carnelian is associated with the Sacral Chakra. This stone was used in ancient times to protect the dead during their journey into the afterlife. That said, it is known to increase both personal power and physical energy, to give courage, and to boost creativity, passion, and compassion. Carnelian helps with focus, analytical capabilities, and deeper concentration. It is useful for those with PTSD and OCD to help stay in the now and not be obsessed with past experiences.
